Elevator Pitch (an intro to Social Media Strategies)
Social media is an exciting and relatively new way of connecting with consumers. As advertising professionals, that is our goal. But how do we measure it? Are sales the final say in a successful ad campaign? Is it too soon to identify best practices within social media? I don’t think so.
This semester, I plan on taking a dive into the deep end of the social media pool. I will fully immerse myself in everything social media. I’ll practice tweeting and updating statuses on Facebook. I'll follow friends, celebrities, and companies to see how they use social media. All of this is to say, I’m going to make social media my business. I will then make it my business to figure out what pulls people to these types of media. I am excited to discover how a company promotes its business through social media tools. Does it rely on consumers to #hashtag the company name? Or perhaps it is the less-than corporate vibe that social media provides consumers.
Throughout the semester, I hope to meet professionals that are working toward applying successful creative strategy to social media sites. By the end of this semester, I hope to be able to identify trends among successful social media campaigns (best practices), figure out a practical system for measuring a campaign’s effectiveness (measurement), and promote myself as a new mind, willing and excited to venture into the relatively unexplored territory of social media strategy.
